Can horses read emotions?
Ever since Robert Redford and "The Horse Whisperer" we've all asked us the question – can horses read human emotions?
For people working with horses on a daily basis, or even just once every now and then the answer is certain. Yes.
But did you know there's evidence to back it up? An English study suggests that not only can horses read human facial expression but they can also remember a person's previous emotional state when they meet them later that day – and hence adapt their behaviour accordingly. Meaning? Horses have a memory for emotion.
So next time you're in the stable; mind your manners. The likelihood of your horse reacting to your emotional state of mind is big. Perhaps that's why last weeks training didn't go as planned?
