Horses = happiness?

We've all felt it – the pure joy and happiness one experience, sometimes of simply being in the same room as a horse. But can it be proven – does horses actually makes us happier? Let's find out.
Reduces stress
Studies shows that not only does horses have a positive effect on stress – being around horses actually reduces our cortisol levels – but also that people who ride rate their emotional level as happier and more cheerful after riding.
Increased Empathy
Feeling compassion for others and yourself is a valuable tool in a difficult and ever changing world. Studies suggests that being around horses can change human brainwave patterns, ultimately making people more calm, centerer and focused. The horse’s ability to demonstrate acceptance and compassion is also key in for example helping people heal from psychological and emotional wounds and trauma.
Improved self esteem
In order to love and have a positive relationship with others, you must first love and have a positive relationship with yourself. Studies show that for children, e therapeutic bond with a horse can help grow mutual trust, respect, empathy, affection, acceptance, confidence, responsibility, communication skills and self-control.
Spending time with horses encourages mindfulness by requiring you to respond to the immediate environment and focus on your horse and its needs. By promoting self awareness and empathy, reducing stress, and building physical strength and self-esteem, horses can help you feel good about yourself and to act compassionately toward yourself and others.
